SEF Partners With South Carolina Organizations to Oppose School Vouchers
April 3, 2020
The Southern Education Foundation, along with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of South Carolina and the Charleston Trident Urban League (CTUL), sent a letter to South Carolina legislative leaders opposing the passage of Senate Bill 556. Senate Bill 556, known as the Equal Opportunity Education Scholarship Account Act, proposes establishing a school voucher program for students with disabilities in South Carolina. In the letter, SEF, the ACLU and CTUL outline reasons for opposing the legislation, which include: redundancy and a waste of taxpayer dollars, the lack of academic benefits for students who use vouchers to attend public schools, and the lack of accountability and oversight for participating private schools.
