The Educational Justice Professional Learning Series, Session 1:
Understanding Our Own Cultural Identities and Experiences

Everyone has a cultural identity – the characteristics we learn and share with family members and people in our communities. While cultural identity connects people in many ways, it can also be a source of cultural misperceptions – often subconsciously. In the first of three webinars on building cultural proficiency, educators can take steps to reflect on their own cultural identities and consider how their experiences shape them as teachers and leaders. This is an important step toward ensuring safe and supportive environments for all students. This series of webinars on building cultural proficiency is in partnership with the Center for Black Educator Development.
